  1. Research.  The internet is your friend when it comes to researching kitchen appliances.  You can find online reviews of almost every dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, convenction oven, and coffee maker.  Most sites will also offer comparisons, where you can compare one model to the next to determine what features suit you best.
  2. Don’t be afraid to compare prices at multiple retailers.  Many appliance retailers will honor their competitors’ prices since the market for these goods is highly competitive.
  3. Be wary when buying appliances (or anything with a large price tag) online.  Even when you find a great deal, by the time you add in the delivery costs and any extra online ordering fees you may be paying more.  You should also make sure the online retailer is a manufacturer-approved retailer to prevent any future issues with the warranty.
  4. Read the fine print on the warranty.  Find out what falls on you as far as repairs go.  Is there a place you can send a part to be fixed or will the manufacturer send someone out to you to make any repairs?  What will be the costs associated with the repairs?
  5. If you choose to finance your purchase, read the fine print on the financing as well.  Many companies will offer financing packages that are extremely low cost for the first year or two but skyrocket after the initial grace period is over.  Make sure you will be prepared to handle these extra costs down the road.

Always remember, you are the one with the wallet, so you have the final say!  Do not let tricky salespeople convince you to buy a product you are not 100% confident in.  In most areas there are also companies that lease out kitchen appliances, so this may be the route to take if you are not able to make such a pricey purchase at this time.  Happy shopping!
